Granted there are many great T-shirts around in the fashion industry, we have narrowed down to just 5 T-shirts that would definitely turn heads. #5: “Improve” T-shirt

Why: Despite a relatively simple design, the main thing that caught our attention was the blunt message written on the chest – “Improve”. We are particularly encouraged by shirts with empowering messages in them besides a really great design. Hence, that message goes out to you, as well as us, the team at Sleek and Suave – to continue improving every single day, regardless of our current standards.

In terms of fashion, the black base nature makes it easy to pair with many different types of outlook, for different occasions. Above that, adding a tinted line of yellow stripe across the word “Improve” adds a certain design element to stand apart from the work of a high school student.

#4: Cross Hatched Curved Hem

Why: There are so many plus points on this T-shirt that it nearly made it to #2 even. With that said, we are totally torn between choices. We really like the graphic design smacked right in the middle because of its circular shape. By playing with geometric shapes and breaking up the logo, it doesn’t come across as if you are trying too hard to boast about the brand. Yet if anyone looks closely enough, the graphic print tells people which brand you are wearing.

The main focus of this shirt however lies with a small yet aesthetically pleasant difference – the hem. Curved instead of a straight cut immediately sets you apart despite being relatively casual still. Curved hems goes very well jeans pairing especially if you pay close attention to the right fitting. And please, tuck out if you are donning on this T-shirt.

#3: Paisley Print T-shirt

Why: Blended between 2 shades of black, the flower print brings about a sense of sophistication while being casual. We can’t help but felt the design brought about the same feeling as the Batik that Asian Datuks wore. A touch of nature also counterbalance the dominating masculine vibe in you with an approachable identity. In our opinion, we rarely see T-shirts of such designs and that is why we chose this to be among our Top 5.

#2: Long Sleeved Collared Henley

Why: This shirt is incredibly unique and nothing like the 10 types of shirts that we have mentioned in previous posts. In naming this shirt with our own terms, we pretty much had question marks in our head when we decided to classify it as a form of Henley because Henleys typically do not have collars but this shirt has a really short one.

The V neck is the main reason why we called it a Henley. Originating as a long sleeved shirt, it seems versatile to convert into a ¾ sleeve or short sleeves whenever intended. We foresee that this shirt is really great for slightly cooler weather conditions or in a casual working environment.

How much: If this shirt is made of great fabric quality, then we are willing to match that up to average Armani prices. Officially speaking, we don’t know the price of this shirt though.

#1: Waffle Knit Pima Henley

Why: It is a Henley. A 100% Pima cotton one. With a soft modal interior blend, it was designed to be comfortable and look good all at the same time. As a long sleeved Henley, it is good to be worn on its own or under a nice outwear. The cuffs are also ribbed, providing a nice grip around your arms, all while looking sleek in it. (Remember what we previously mentioned about standing out with your own fashion style in a casual environment?)

Round Neck T-Shirts: Stripes, Prints…Or Just Plain Tees???

For the past 2 entries we discussed about several types of T-shirts as well as types of and their distinct characteristics. This week we are going to go in-depth into a specific topic: Round Neck T-Shirts. We are going to explore the different and unique traits about each type of T-Shirts, we will also be going into details about which types of T-shirts suit you best and how you can make use of their distinct traits to bring out the best in you!

Stripes

You have mainly two options to consider when choosing between the kinds of stripes to wear: horizontal or vertical. Horizontal stripes usually are the less popular choice to go. Unless you want to look like a Sesame Street character or jailbird, horizontal stripes can be funny to look at visually. Vertical stripes, on the other hand, do not carry many negative connotations.

Vertical stripes make you look taller, which can be great if you’re vertically challenged, but might also make you look like hilarious if you are already tall. Wearing horizontal stripes also comes with the unfortunate side effect of making overweight people look even more overweight. It’s an optical illusion to some, but perception is what sticks, it really boils down to how people look at it individually. So anyone with a few extra pounds should be extra wary when wearing T-shirts with horizontal stripes.

Prints

T-shirts with prints are one of the most popular choice among youngsters age between 16-21, mainly because it gives off a very hip and cool vibe. It is also a representation of fun, trendy and young. Plain T-shirts are perhaps the most common and go-to choice for most individuals, you could almost see it everywhere on every street almost everyday. It’s the best casual wear on a casual day for most of us, because it does not have any much of a distinctive traits compared to the two other types of T-shirts mentioned above. It might seem ridiculous to put it in this manner but research shows most of us just put on a plain T-shirt when we leave our house simply because we got to have something on covered on our upper body. LOL!!!

Nonetheless, there are ways to make an individual look good just by wearing a plain tee, often that is by using colors to bring out the personality of the person. (Another) 5 Types of Shirts (Part 2)

In our previous post, we talked about the various types of shirts that you should know and how each of them can help enhance your personal style to the next level. In this post, we talk about the remaining 5 that we narrowed down for your greater understanding of how to sport a shirt like a true man.

Sports

Made of cotton and polyester, Sports T-shirts are designed to provide maximum mobility while providing a certain level of breathability for perspiration to be moved away from the body.

Various sports brands created their own unique fabric technology, playing with different combinations of cotton and polyester (eg. 60% cotton and 40% polyester). This is to leverage on both the strengths of cotton and polyester material. While there are T-shirts out there with 100% polyester material, such shirts are not effective for perspiration control.

Examples of big brands investing in perspiration control includes Nike’s Dri-Fit while Adidas founded Clima-cool technology. Because these shirts also have varying thickness at different parts of the shirt, they create a significant difference in air circulation and hence allowing certain parts of the shirt to dry up faster than the rest.

With that in mind, now you can fully justify your expenditure on a collection of good sports attire. They are (secretly) functional and fashionable, both on and off the field. Best suited for people who want to be in their A-game all the time.

Henley

Want to stand out from the crowd of usual dudes wearing T-shirts? Besides graphical T-shirts, another way of showing off your fashion sense lies in the fundamental style of shirt. Henley shirts could be seen as the hybrid between dress shirts, crew neck and polo-Tees.

It is easy to spot a Henley because such shirts definitely look very differently from normal T-shirts. They have high necklines, similar to or higher than crew neck T-shirts. In cooler climate conditions, high necklines offer a sense of sophistication, almost like a refreshing mint from the usual. Henleys also usually have a button up neckline, pretty much like the collar T-shirts – without the collars.

In both short and long sleeves, Henley shirts are easily paired with outerwear to provide a casual, yet professional outlook. If your workplace does not require you to be in suits and ties, then Henleys can contour perfectly to your fashion style without appearing like you try too hard.

Pocket

You must have noticed that certain T-shirts actually have a pocket at the chest. T-shirts originated from being an undershirt until it became more common to wear them as a standalone in modern days. Functionality aside, having a pocket makes it look much lesser than an undershirt. That is especially true if you like plain T-shirts. 

Pocket T-shirts are also suitable to pair up with outerwear such as bomber jackets and blazers.

Hence, it really depends much on your fashion direction. Just take note that usually pocket T-shirts are typically regarded as a form of casual wear.

Long Sleeved Shirts

Incredibly versatile at pairing especially during colder climates, such shirts are for the lazy bums who want to look equally good. We all remember situations where the temperature is low enough for us to feel uncomfortable yet not cold enough to warrant a jacket. Under such scenarios, what else would be a great option besides a simple long sleeved shirt. (Did Elon Musk’s recent stage appearance struck a familiar chord?)

Without the collar, just like most T-shirts, the long sleeves serve as a comfort wear both at home, in campus and at a casual working environment. Yet should the occasion calls for it, pairing it with a vest or a coat serves both functionality and fashion sense.

Alternatively, long sleeved shirts are great for men who wants their sleeves covering a part of their forearm. Simply pull the sleeves up slightly at your elbows and you have a new taste altogether. As usual, get fitting ones definitely and be warned that such outlooks typically can wear your shirt out within 2 years, depending on usage.

Hooded

In both long and short sleeves, the hooded shirts as its name suggests – has a(functional) hood. When it’s all hoods down, the shirt looks like a normal long sleeved one with a relatively high and tight neckline. Many of the hooded shirts also presents drawstrings which are functional as well as aesthetically different from other usual shirts.

Leveraging on that point, the drawstrings act as accessory to pull off a casual and cool appearance. And depending very much on your bottoms, you can look either you are heading for a run, sleek for work or completely look like a street punk.

Although this article post is mainly on shirts, a word of advice to hooded shirt combinations: Avoid baggy trousers that are threatening to fall off your hips with every step you take. Sweatpants combinations pull off a jogger’s outlook while nice fitting jeans make you look like a Silicon valley entrepreneur.

Same goes for the length of your sleeves. Long sleeves are usually a better bet, because like long sleeved shirts as mentioned previously, you can always roll up to 3 quarters arm length. Short sleeves hooded shirts pull off a parkour outlook.

There are many different types of shirts available in the market and each of them can help contour your body shape the way you want, or to display the fashion sense that lies quietly within you. Celebrity’s Fashion Review: G Dragon

Welcome to the very first installment of our “Celebrity’s Fashion Review” series. Once in a while we will single out a particular celebrity, superstar, or famous personality whom we think that not only they are known for what they do, but also had incredible fashion sense. In this series we break down in details the style of each celebrity and the characteristic of their dress sense. We will also be sharing with you how we think, you or anyone else can learn and draw inspiration from styles and ways of dressing.

In this first part of the series, we take a look at the one and only G dragon. Yes, you heard it right! Leader of one of Asia’s phenomenon boyband, Big Bang, relentless rapper, awesome singer with sleek dance moves, talented record producer and song writer, most importantly to us peeps at Sleek & Suave, a reputable fashion icon. Referred to as the “King of the K-Pop”, he was named by Forbes Asia “The Most Influential Person Under 30” in Eastern’s entertainment. He was often described as “The President of young adults” having a huge influence over teens and people in their twenties. Beside being praise for his work in music, he is often in the limelight for his powerful fashion sense

.

Today we explore and dig deeper into his dress sense and share with you the characteristics behind his fashion style and what made him stood out among all other celebrities, how he is able to influence guys to dress like him and make girls go gaga and swoon over him. Most importantly we want to share with you and give you ideas on how you could dress like him too!

Dare To Be Different

One thing that makes GD’s fashion stand out is his willingness to dress differently from the rest. He wore low length shorts with all sorts of combinations, from T-shirts to long sleeve shirts and even sleeveless shirts. You name it, he wore it! Another point to note is that he is not afraid to put on apparels that don’t fit him, he is often seen wearing baggy pants, jeans, shirts and jackets. We always laugh at some dude wearing baggy stuffs that don’t fit them as it’s oversize and often look awful.

GD not only ignored what others might say about him wearing oversize apparels, he look absolutely good in them! This goes to show the amount of attention he paid in dressing himself so as to know what looks good on him. His willingness to dress differently in order to standout from the others is what we really admire and definitely something that we should all learn from.

Unique Image and Style

Over the years, GD has changed and experiment with different styles. If you do follow him closely throughout all these years, you will notice that his styles of fashion is not only unique but most importantly, you do not find anyone dressed like him before he do. It’s as though that he had created a personal style or brand that is only exclusive to him. Many guys, especially teenagers would often take him as a reference when come to choosing apparel because he had such a strong “Personal Flavor” when it comes to putting on apparels. To sum it up, his efforts and passion to put in the work to create a unique and one of a kind image is what we can really take away from him when it comes to creating our own styles and images.

 

Flamboyant colors

Another important point which separates GD from other fashionista is the flashy colors that he dons on his apparels. Often it might look exaggerating at the first sight, but actually looks very good on him!

He is also good at mixing colors to create amazing contrast that makes his apparels stand out. This can be a crucial when comes to dressing ourselves because often we thought that having just one or two colors on our apparels is the “normal” way to go, but by considering and wearing different colors, it brings out a brand
new style that is unique to us. Having different colors would also give us a fresh look instead of have just one or two colors which makes us look dull and boring, it makes our dressing more exciting that way.

 

In Conclusion

Many may argue the fact that because he had a small frame and good body proportion so he would definitely looks good. That is true to a certain extent but to us that is just a plus point which he holds. We believe that the key to G Dragon’s amazing fashion sense lies in his passion towards fashion and most importantly putting in lots of efforts to make himself look good. He also always strive to create new image for himself and improve on his dress sense. That is something we could take away from him and learn from him.

Fit Guide for T-shirts

Now imagine yourself having to walk about in red bright oversized shoes. Besides instantly thinking of Ronald Mcdonald, it would be unthinkable to go beyond 10 steps in those shoes. On the other end of the spectrum, having to cram your toes into a pair of dress shoes 2 size smaller than your usual size is equally cringe-worthy.

OK, you get the point. Since we have all decided to be gentlemen who look good and feel good, today we tackle the cornerstone of good fashion sense – having the right fit, specifically for T-shirts.

“But what if I am far from a model or bodybuilder’s sculpted body?” you might ask. Rest assure that the following guide has been written with considerations for most body types. That is to say, from underweight slim guys, perfectly muscular body to average plump body types. Extreme obesity that resembled the stereotype of a sumo wrestler will, unfortunately, not be considered in this guide.

Having said that, it never harms to workout more so that you look even better without the clothes. Wouldn’t that be your desire to hear the ladies say that?

Sleeve Seams

The seam of your sleeves (the line that connects your shirt to your sleeves) should rest on your shoulder line, just before your deltoids curve downwards. If the sleeve seams go beyond your shoulder bone, then it is a sign that the T-shirt is oversized for you. And if it is more than 1 cm away from shoulder bone, towards your neck, that T-shirt might be too small for you.

 

Sleeve Length

Again, whether you have toned biceps to show off or not, the length of the sleeve should fall between your elbows and shoulder. More specifically resting on your mid-biceps. Hence to say, when you flex your biceps, the longest the shirt sleeve should go, is at the peak of your biceps. The sleeves can be shorter and slightly above mid-biceps, but not any longer.

Sleeve Tightness

To begin with, T-shirts were meant to be undershirts and fabrics of comfort for most activities. While the sleeves of your T-shirt should be loose enough for comfort and movement, they should not make you look like a rag-doll. From a visual perspective, loose sleeves create a false image that your arms are smaller than they actually are.

Hence, the sleeves should hug around your arms nicely (and this will be very subjective to your current physical shape). It should be tight enough that when you pinch the excess, it should not be more than 3 cm, ideally between 1 to 2 cm. Of course, the sleeves should not be too tight that it feels suffocating and does not air to flow easily up your arms. 1 to 2 finger gaps would be very comfortable.

 

Shirt Tightness

This is one of the parameters guys would start debating if it should be the same for most body types. Yes, the following guide applies to most body types, including guys who look like they are in their first trimester. The T-shirt should fit nicely over your frame without making you look like a kite. It should not be baggy unless you are working towards a hip hop dancer’s image.

Pinch (not tug) the excess of your T-shirt at its sides or near your obliques. The excess should within 1-2 cm on each side. Beyond 2 cm excess, the T-shirt is too large. Less than 1 cm, you risk looking like you are wearing a leotard. Once again, if you are someone with big belly, and still want to look good without immediate rectification physically, this advice works fine. Give and take an additional 1 cm. For people with skinny body types, clearly do not wear T-shirts that hugs too tightly to your skin.

 

Shirt Length

The hem of T-shirt should be at about mid-crotch or middle of your zipper length. It could go shorter but not beyond your hipline and belt. Unless you have a belly button piercing that you like to show. We recommend T-shirt lengths that reach mid-zipper after considering that as gentlemen, we need to move around and reach out often. Shirt lengths above mid-zipper might showcase your Calvin Klein underwear when you raise your hands.

On the flip side, the end of shirts should also not be long enough to cover your entire zipper.

T-shirts can look exceptionally great and versatile for many occasions. Having the right fit is paramount. Remember, it is your call when it comes to comfort and appearance. At Sleek & Suave, we believe that the choice of color you make for your clothing is very important as it not only makes you standout, looks great but also vital in showing your personality and identity. In this very post, we will be sharing with you what sort of colors you should choose for your clothing that best resonates with your personality.

Red

Studies have shown that the color red not only makes people look attractive but it also have the ability to affect our attention span. Most importantly, it has powerful effects on one’s behavior. By wearing red, people tend to be able to notice you more easily and it’s easier to gain the attention of others compared to wearing other colors. So if you have someone around you who wears red all the time, he or she probably loves having others attention and enjoy eyes being drawn to them all the time. Welcome to the first edition of Gentlemen’s Fashion by Sleek & Suave. Today, we discuss about why T-Shirts should be a staple in your wardrobe. Not like you need any more reasons to love T-shirts, that is. In fact, for the highly analytical brains out there, we break things down to help justify for good quality shirts.

Comfort

Nothing affects your presence and the vibe you give off more than how you feel in your skin. Cotton T-shirts get you just that – the freedom to move about and feel comfortable for the entire day. A good T-shirt grants you the coolness in tropical weather and provides warmth in lower temperatures. It should provide sufficient breathability and allow your perspiration to transmit through the fabric fairly easily.
